Total population of Zhengzhou (capital of Henan Province) has grown from 6.4 million in 2001 to 7.1 million in 2007, representing a 10.9% increase over the years. The largest increase occurred in 2007 with a growth rate of 2.23% relative to the previous years. The population covers a total area of 7446 square kilometers.

Zhengzhou has more than 50,000 industrial enterprises engaged in over 100 industrial sectors. Its main industries include: aluminum processing, food products, energy, automobile and machinery industries.

Government finance revenue of Zhengzhou has jumped from 5 RMB billion in 2001 to 22 RMB billion in 2007, reflecting a 4.4 times increase over the period of six years. This is due to its rapid development in various aspects of the city. Increasing number of investors has established enterprises in Zhengzhou. Besides, business environment has been evolving swiftly as well. GDP and GDP per capita have also been on an upward trend.

Total investments in fixed assets of Zhengzhou has leaped by 7.6 times from 18 RMB billion in 2001 to 137 RMB billion in 2007. One of the factors is attribute to Zhengzhou being an integrated transportation and communication hub of China with railways, expressways, aviation and telecommunication laying the crucial foundation for investors. Furthermore, investment costs in Zhengzhou are relatively lower as compared to the cities in eastern coastal areas, thus, bringing costs advantages and serving as added incentive to investors. At the end of 2007, 16 of Fortune 500 such as Pepsi, DHL, UPS, Nissan, Philips, and Coco-cola have established enterprises in Zhengzhou.
