Wholesale and retail trade constitutes the major
portion of the consumer goods. Motor vehicles,
housing and telecommunication service will continue
to be dominant while other products especially
catering services will increase at a faster pace.
There is an increasing trend in hotel and catering
services and this trend will carry on. There is a
direct correlation between the proportion of
tertiary services in an economy and the level of
development of the economy. This is an indication
that China is on its way to building a more
developed economy. Others include sales of books,
newspapers, magazines, audio-visual products and
post products. This sector of the consumer goods is
reflected to have a downward movement over the
years. This is due to saturation of such products in
the market. If investors would want to enter this
sector of the market, heavy differentiation would be
necessary.
