Education in China has become one of the important
priorities for the development of the state. More
funds have been injected into the education system
so as to bring improvements to the society. From the
four graphs shown below, the total number of
students enrolled in tertiary educational schools,
vocational schools and secondary schools has leapt
upwards since 1987. For example, the total number of
students enrolled in tertiary educational schools
has surged by 11.8 times to 23.1 million students in
2011. This would also imply that the proportion of
tertiary students among the total population have
also increased dramatically to 1.7% from a mere
0.2% in 1990. The number of students enrolled in
vocational schools has also raised by 2.6 times
from 2.7 million students in 1987 to 6.8 million students in 2011. Similarly, the number of students
enrolled in senior secondary schools has increased
from 7.7 million to 24.55 million students – a triple
fold increase.
