In 2007, majority of China’s total imports are
imported using conventional trade. 39% are derived
from processing trade, while a minority proportion
of China’s total imports is derived from other trade
patterns. Imports from processing trade has slowed
in the recent years from 41.5% in 2005 to 38.5% in
2007.In contrast, imports from conventional trade
has climbed from 42.4% in 2005 to 44.8% in 2007. The
decrease in imports from processing trade is due to
changes in list of products prohibited from import
in the form of processing trade. These changes take
factors such as environmental and employment
conditions into consideration.
