Shaanxi Imports and Exports
With the implementation of the Western China
Development strategy, significant progress has been
made to the province’s foreign trade. Other areas of
improvement such as achieving breakthrough in the
construction of infrastructures and deepening of
reform and opening up of the economy have
contributed greatly to the development of the
province’s international trade. Total imports and
exports of Shaanxi province has quadrupled from US$
1, 730 million in 1997 to US$ 6, 890 million in
2007.

Total imports of Shaanxi province has been on a
upward trend from US$ 500 million in 1997 to
US$ 2, 210 million in 2007, representing a 4.4 times
growth over a period of ten years. The province’s
key imports consist of optical and health
equipments, electrical and mechanical equipments and
chemical products, while major import sources are
derived from US, Japan and European Union.

Shaanxi’s total
exports have risen from US$ 1, 230 million in 1997 to US$ 4, 680 million in
2007, reflecting a 3.9 times increase over the years. Major exports include:
processed agricultural products, minerals, textiles and garments, metals,
electrical and mechanical equipments and transportation equipments. The
province major export destinations are US, Netherlands, Germany and India.
In the 11th Five- year plan, the government has planned to expand the scale
of exports by constructing export commodity bases, expanding export
enterprises, developing well-known export products and regulating the export
commodity structure. Thus, it is expected that the total exports would
continue its upward trend in the next period.
