Gansu Imports and Exports
Gansu has already established trade relations with
105 countries and regions all over the world. Total
value of imports and exports of Gansu province has
jumped from US$ 480 million in 1997 to US$ 5, 520
million in 2007, representing a 11.6 times surge
over a period of ten years.

Total value of imports of Gansu province has shown a
remarkable leap from US$ 120 million in 1997 to US$
3, 870 million in 2007, reflecting a 32.5 times
boost over the years. Its main import sources are
derived from Hong Kong, Australia, US, Germany and
Japan. The province key import products consist of
mechanical equipments and metal ores such as cooper,
nickel, aluminum etc.

Gansu’s total
value of exports has been on a upward trend from US$ 360 million in 1997 to
US$ 1, 660 million in 2007, representing a 4.6 times growth during the
period. Gansu’s major export products include: machinery, petrochemicals and
garments, while its main export markets are Japan, Hong Kong, US, Republic
of Korea and Germany. In 2001, Gansu’s government plans to establish 10
export industrial bases to stimulate trade. In addition, since the nearest
seaport (Tianjin) is 2, 000 km away from Gansu, government has provided
transportation subsidies to serve as incentives for all exporting
enterprises. The province also aims to shift from exporting low added-value
products to exporting high added-value products.
