Hubei Imports and Exports

 

Total value of imports and exports of Hubei province have risen from US$ 3, 210 million in 1997 to US$ 12, 870 million in 2007, representing a 4.6 times growth over a period of ten years. The province's total value of imports and exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 51.8%. Among all the cities in Hubei province, Wuhan contributes a major portion of the total trade value amounting to US$ 6, 100 million in 2005, constituting to more than two thirds of the total provincial value of imports and exports.

Hubei’s total value of imports has been on an upward trend from US$ 1,290 million in 1997 to US$ 6, 700 million in 2007, reflecting a 5.2 times increase over the years. Most of the imports are derived from Japan, France and Germany. These imports include: car components, chemicals and raw materials, electronic equipment and iron and copper ores. The development of the iron and steel industry is the main factor for the considerable growth in iron core imports. In addition, the domestic demand for cars are increasing as well, which explains the significant proportion of car components that contributes to the total value of imports of Hubei province.

The exports volume of Hubei Province has been ranked first among central China provinces in 6 years since 2002. Total value of exports have climbed from US$ 1, 920 million in 1997 to US$ 8, 170 million in 2007, having a 4.3 times raise over a period of ten years. Major exported products consist of textile and garment, machinery, electronic component and device and medicinal raw material, while major export destinations include US, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany and South Korea. Electromechanical products play a leading role in Hubei’s exports. Besides, industries in iron and steel, shipping, automobile, electronics, chemical engineering are growing rapidly, thus, exports from these industries have swelled considerably as well.
