Hunan Imports and Exports
Since reform and opening up, Hunan province has
continuously undergo industrialization, urbanization
and agriculture industrialization. These processes
have aided the province in promoting international
trade, thus bringing tremendous benefits to the
province’s growth in the total imports and exports.
The province has established trade relations with
more than 160 countries and regions in the world.
Total value of imports and exports of Hunan province
have up by 5.1 times from
US$ 1, 890 million in 1997 to US$ 9, 690 million in
2007.

Hunan’s total imports have jumped from US$ 450
million in 1997 to US$ 3, 170 million in 2007,
representing a 7.1 times growth over a period of ten
years. Major imported goods consist of ore, auto
parts, rolled steel, and paper pulp, while the major
source of imports are derived from Japan, Australia,
and Germany. In 2006, the largest amount of imports
is derived from Japan with a value of US$ 385
million, constituting to 17% of the total import
value.

Total exports of
Hunan province has been on a upward trend from US$ 1, 450 million in 1997 to
US$ 6, 520 million in 2007, reflecting a 4.5 times increase over the years.
Major export destinations include: Hong Kong, European Union, US and Japan,
while key exports include rolled steel, textiles, clothing and apparels,
porcelain, ceramics and firecrackers and fireworks. Hong Kong is the leading
export market of Hunan province. In 2007, the province’s exports to Hong
Kong reached US$ 810 million.
