Inner Mongolia Imports and Exports
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has established
economic relations with over 160 countries and
regions in the world. Among which, Russia, Mongolia
and US play a vital role in contributing to the
total value of imports and exports. One of the
factors that result in such composition is due to
geographical factor- more than 4, 200 km of border
line is being shared by Inner Mongolia, Russia, and
Mongolia. Total imports and exports of Inner
Mongolia has grown from US$ 1, 070 million in 1997
to US$ 7, 740 million in 2007, representing a 7.2
times growth over a period of ten years.

Inner Mongolia’s value of imports has risen from US$
420 million in 1997 to US$ 4,790 million in 2007,
reflecting an 11.5 times upsurge over the years.
Major imports include minerals, wood, charcoal,
straws, plaited products, baskets and wickerwork,
chemical raw materials and electronics. Major import
sources are derived from Russia, Mongolia,
Australia, Germany and US.

Total exports of
Inner Mongolia has been on a upward trend from US$ 660 million in1997 to
US$ 2, 940 million in 2007, having a 4.5 times growth over the years. Inner
Mongolia’s main exports include base metals, textile materials, chemicals,
electronic products, vegetables, fruit and cereals, while he major export
markets consist of Japan, US and Mongolia. In 2006, the exports value of
Japan amounted to US$ 300 million, constituting to 14.1% of the region’s
total exports. Private enterprises have become a key driving force for the
development of the region’s foreign trade. In 2006, the imports and exports
account for 51% of the region’s total imports and exports growth rate.
