Jiangsu Imports and Exports

 

Jiangsu is one of the major coastal provinces of China, ranking second by volume of trade in the country. The province has established trade relations with more than 200 countries and regions in the world. Total imports and exports of Jiangsu province has leaped from US$ 23, 630 million in 1997 to US$ 349, 470 million in 2007, representing a 14.8 times upsurge over a period of ten years.

Jiangsu’s total value of imports has jumped from US$ 9, 530 million in 1997 to US$ 145, 860 million in 2007, reflecting a 15.3 times growth over the years. Major imported goods consist of machineries, apparatus and gauges and organic chemicals, while major import sources are derived from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Electronics contribute to the largest proportion to the total value of imports. In 2007, the imports of electronics constitute to 35.1% of the total imports, amounting to US$ 35, 100 million.

Total exports of Jiangsu province has surged by 14.4 times from US$ 14, 100 million in 1997 to US$ 203, 610 million in 2007. Major exports include machineries and electronic products, telecommunication and recorders, textiles and garments. The province major export destinations are US, Japan and European Union. Machineries form the major portion of the total exports. In 2007, exports of machineries contribute to 29.1% of the total exports, amounting to US$59, 170 million. Standing in second place, electronics contribute 25.9% to the total, amounting to US$ 52, 780 million. The exports of textiles and garments is expected to increase as Jiangsu is located at the Yangtze Delta region in which there is abundant land and human resource for utilization. The export value of textile and garments is ranked third among all the provinces and regions in China.
