Jiangxi province has established trade relations
with more than 153 countries and regions in the
world. Total imports and exports of Jiangxi province
has expanded from US$ 1, 330 million in 1997 to US$
9, 450 million in 2007, representing a 7.1 times
growth over a period of ten years.

Jiangxi’s total imports have been on an upward trend
from US$ 220 million in 1997 to US$ 4, 000 million
in 2007, reflecting a 18.4 times jump over the
years. Major imports include: chemicals, fertilizer,
high-tech products, iron ore and copper, while major
import sources are derived from Chile, Taiwan and
Japan. In 2006, most of the imported goods of
Jiangxi’s province are derived from Chile, having a
value of US$ 321 million, constituting to 13.2% of
the total provincial imports.

Total exports of
Jiangxi province has climbed from US$ 1, 110 million in 1997 to US$ 5, 450
million in 2007, having a 4.9 times increase over the years. One of the key
factors for the rising trend of the exports of Jiangxi’s province lies in
its competitive advantage– low costs of labor, land, power and developed
infrastructure. These advantages have served as alluring incentives for
enterprises as compared to provinces like Guangdong, which has higher costs
of inputs. Relative to Guangdong, the average monthly wages are 40% lower in
Jiangxi province. Major exports comprise of textiles and garments, rolled
steel, mechanical and electrical products and chemicals. The province key
export destinations are Hong Kong, US and Japan. US is the top export market
with value of exports amounting to US% 550 million, constituting to 14.7% of
total exports of Jiangxi province in 2006.
