Total value of imports and exports of Shandong province has been increasing steadily from US$ 17, 640 million in 1997 to US$ 122, 470 million in 2007, representing a 6.9 times growth over a period of ten years.

Shangdong’s total imports have grown from US$ 6, 680 million in 1997 to US$ 47, 360 million in 2007, reflecting a 7.1 times increase over the years. Major import items consist of electrical appliances, iron ore, machinery and equipments, plastics, textiles, raw materials and electronics products, while major imports sources are derived from South Korea, US and Japan. In 2005, electrical appliances and electronic products constitute to the largest portion of the total provincial imports- 14.2% share in the total imports.

Total exports value of Shandong province has surged from US$ 10, 970 million in 1997 to
US$ 75, 110 million in 2007, experiencing a 6.8 times growth over the years. In 2005, textiles and costume contribute the most to the total provincial exports- constituting 22.8% to the total provincial exports.
