Shanxi Imports and Exports
Total imports and exports of Shanxi province has
surged from US$ 1, 340 million in 1997 to
US$ 11, 580 million in 2007 , representing a 8.6
times increase over a period of ten years. One of
the major factors that leads to the increasing
foreign trade is due to the flourishing energy and
raw materials industry.

Shanxi’s total imports has jumped from US$ 210
million in 1997 to US$ 5, 050 million in 2007,
reflecting a 23.7 times leap over the years. Major
imports consist of minerals, machinery, chemicals
and electric equipments, while major sources of
imports are derived from Germany, Australia, Cuba
and India. In 2006, imports from Australia form the
largest portion of the total provincial imports,
amounting to US$ 350 million, constituting to 13.9%
of the total imports.

value of Shanxi province has been on a upward trend from US$ 1, 130 million
in 1997 to US$ 6, 530 million in 2007, having a 5.8 times growth over the
years. The province’s major export items comprise of included minerals, base
metals, machinery, chemicals and cement. Shanxi’s major export destinations
are US, Japan and South Korea. Shanxi is a leading coal production base,
which exports a substantial portion- amounting to 48% of the coke traded in
the international market. In 2006, US is the largest export of Shanxi
province, having exports value amounting to
US$ 676 million, constituting 16.3% to the total exports of Shanxi province.
