Sichuan Imports and Exports
Total imports and exports of Sichuan province has
been on a rising trend from US$ 1, 820 million in
1997 to US$ 14, 380 million in 2007, representing a
7.9 times increase over a period of ten years. In
2009, Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce has
laid out 10 initiatives to uplift the scale and
quality of the province’s foreign trade. Such
initiatives include: encouraging stable and fast
export growth, adjusting and optimizing foreign
trade structure, providing quality and highly-
efficient services etc. These initiatives would be
highly beneficial for the future development of the
province’s foreign trade.

Total import value of Sichuan province has grown
from US$ 550 million in 1997 to US$ 5, 770 million
in 2007, reflecting a 10.5 times growth over the
years. The province’s major import items comprise of
machinery and electric equipment, electrical
appliances, transport equipments and minerals, while
the major sources of imports are derived from US,
Japan, Germany and South Korea.

Sichuan’s total
exports have increased by 6.7 times from US$ 1, 280 million in 1997 to US$
8, 610 million in 2007. Sichuan’s major export goods consist of machinery
and electric equipments, electrical appliances, textiles, base metals and
related products. The province’s major exports destinations are US, Hong
Kong, India and Russia. In 2005, exports from state- owned enterprises
constitute a major portion- 49.3% of the total provincial exports;
collective and private enterprises 36.2% and foreign- funded enterprises
14.5% of the total.
