China surging material demand
Though China’s share of world economy (or GDP share) was 4.7%, its consumption for raw material is massive. This is especially true with China’s boom in its construction industry where its demand for construction materials surged for the last few years, amounted to about 50% of the world cement usage.
This also explains why the demand for steel (28%) and aluminum (15%) were much stronger than the rest of the world. Such trend is a threat to the environment, especially its high usage of coal which caused massive pollution. However, the Chinese government is stepping its way to curb this problem.
